Sukka Green Moong dal

Simple, easy & quick Sukka Dal made from Green Moong. Green Moong dal is pressure cooked with onion-tomato and simple spices. It goes well with roti, kulcha, chapati and dosa.




Ingredients :
  • Whole Green Moong Dal - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1
  • Tomato - 1
  • Ginger-Garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
  • Corriander Powder - 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Water - 3 cups
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
Method : 
  • Wash and soak green moong dal for an hour.
  • In a pressure cooker heat oil. Add jeera.
  • When it splutters add chopped onion and fry till translucent.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and fry till raw smell goes away.
  • Now add chopped tomatoes and saute till soft.
  • Add the dry spice powders,salt and fry for a min.
  • Pour in water and let it boil.
  • Add drained green moong dal.
  • Once it starts to boil, close the lid and cook for 3 to 4 whistles or till the dal is cooked well.
  • Wait till the pressure comes down. Open the lid. If its too watery cook with lid open till water evaporates or until desired consistency.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Quick and tasty Green moong dal is ready to be served with roti, kulcha, chapati or dosa.
