Onion Tomato Rasam

Got to taste this rasam by my neighbour and friend Apurupa Jagdeesh from AP. Its a small twist for the usual rasam by adding onion. Easy and quick recipe, an alternative when u have no time to cook any curry or sambar & want something different from the usual rasam. It goes well with papad, egg omelette or any fry.

Ingredients :

  • Onion - 1
  • Tomato - 3
  • Rasam Powder - 2tbsp
  • Garlic - 5 pods
  • Green Chilli - 3
  • Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
  • Mustard - 1/4 tsp
  • Jeera - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander for garnishing
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
Method :
  • Grind 2 tomatoes to a fine paste. Finely chop other tomato and onion.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard and jeera.
  • When they splutter, add crushed garlic pods, slit green chillies, curry leaves. Saute for a minute.
  • Add onion and saute till golden brown.
  • Add turmeric and chopped tomato. Saute till mushy.
  • Pour in tomato puree, required amount of water, salt and rasam powder.
  • Let it boil. Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice.
Note :
  • Here I have used MTR Rasam powder. U can alternatively add any of your rasam powder. Or add equal amount of jeera and pepper powder.
  • For more tangy taste u can add 1 tbsp of tamarind extract.
